Some homes are furnished over a week. This one was done in a day. In March 2025 a design firm in the East Bay had a family home in Alamo, California furnished from the living room to the back deck: 82 pieces delivered, assembled and placed on a single Thursday, with the packaging gone by the time the crew left.

Before the day: one address for every vendor

An 82-piece order does not come from one place. This one combined upholstery, case goods, lighting, rugs and a full set of outdoor furniture, from many different makers. Rather than have each of them deliver to the house on its own schedule, the design firm routed everything to our warehouse in Hayward under the project's name.

Each delivery was photographed in its packaging as it arrived and checked against the list the designers sent us. The firm could see what had landed and what was still on its way, and it set the install date once the order was complete. Until then, nothing sat in the family's garage or on their porch.

Why the whole order waits for one date

A home installed in one trip is finished in one day. A home installed piece by piece, as each vendor ships, is never quite finished, and the family lives around boxes in the meantime.

What 82 pieces looked like

The order list shows how much goes into furnishing a family home, beyond the sofas. Indoors there were four swivel chairs, a sectional built from separate sections, dining chairs, a pair of stools, end tables, nesting tables, a storage ottoman, a coat rack, a wood cupboard, floor lamps, wall sconces, a pendant, a pair of mirrors, several rugs and the pads that go under them. Outdoors there were eight woven dining chairs, outdoor dining tables, two outdoor sofas and a chaise, swivel and sling chairs, two fire tables with their fire glass, and an umbrella with its base.

Every one of those had its own carton or set of cartons, and every one had to reach the right room. That is why the receiving record matters on install day: the crew loads from the list, not from memory.

Install day: one truck, one crew

The order came out from Hayward on one truck. The photos from the day begin just before 10 o'clock, with the cartons unloaded onto the driveway and opened in the garage. Each piece was unwrapped there and carried into the house ready to place, so most of the cardboard and foam stayed out of the living spaces.

From there the crew worked through the house room by room: the living room and family room first, then the dining room, then the deck and patio. Pieces that came flat or in sections were assembled in the room they belong to. The last photos, taken early in the afternoon, show the family room finished.

The living room

The main living room is built around a deep gray sectional, dressed with gray, white and rust pillows, on a pale patterned rug. A large round boucle ottoman sits at its center, with a pair of black nesting tables tucked against the arm, all under two abstract canvases.

The crew set each piece to the designer's layout. The photos show the rug pad going down first and the rug laid over it, then the sectional pieces joined on top, then the ottoman and tables placed so the room reads as one group.

The family room and the second sitting room

Next to the fireplace, the family room took two cognac swivel chairs in a soft, suede-like finish and two round sherpa ottomans on legs, on a navy and cream striped rug. Elsewhere in the house a second sitting room received a gray sofa on a woven natural rug, and the order also included a recliner, a gray swivel chair, a floor lamp and a wood cupboard with woven baskets.

The dining room

The dining room got a long dark wood table and its chairs. The photos show the table being set square to the room and the windows before the chairs went in around it.

Outdoors: the upper deck and the patio

About a third of the order went outside, which is common for East Bay homes where the deck is used most of the year. On the upper deck, the photos show an outdoor dining table with woven rope chairs on a terracotta rug, an orange market umbrella, and a seating group with an outdoor sofa, rope swivel chairs, side tables and a rectangular fire table.

On the covered patio below, a second outdoor sofa and lounge chairs were set around a fire table, with an outdoor dining set nearby. Outdoor pieces arrive in some of the largest cartons on any order, and cushions travel separately. Each was assembled where needed, cushioned and placed to the plan.

What the designer told us

The following week the firm's owner wrote to our team to say the install had gone really well and the crew had made a strong impression, and to thank us for a smooth, seamless day. The firm has booked us for another installation since.

What made it work

  • The full order in hand before the date. Every vendor shipped to our warehouse, so the install was set only once everything had arrived. No second trip for a late piece.
  • Unpacking outside the living spaces. Cartons were opened in the garage and on the driveway, and the crew took all the packaging away with them.
  • Indoors and out in one trip. The deck and patio were finished on the same day as the interior.
  • Placed to the designer's layout. The crew worked from the firm's plan, room by room, so the designers did not have to rearrange anything afterward.

Our white glove installation page describes the service, our San Francisco receiving warehouse page covers how the Hayward warehouse receives and holds orders for Bay Area projects, and our receiving warehouse for interior designers page explains how a design firm can route every vendor to one address. Yes. On this project the crew assembled and placed outdoor dining sets, outdoor sofas, swivel chairs and fire tables on the deck and the patio, the same day as the interior.

Yes. Vendors ship to our Hayward warehouse, which receives Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, by appointment. Each delivery is photographed in its packaging, checked against the list you sent us and held until your install date.
How much does a one-day home install cost?
Every project is quoted individually. The quote depends on the number of pieces, how long they are stored, the access at the house and the number of install days. Send us the piece list and your date, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
