Shipments being received at an Elite Anywhere warehouse

What a receiving warehouse does for an online store

A receiving warehouse is a commercial dock that takes in freight for your business. For a brand selling oversized goods online, Elite Anywhere signs for inbound pallets and crates, photographs and condition-checks each one, stores the stock in climate-controlled space, and releases it when an order comes in, either delivered into the buyer’s room or shipped onward.

What’s included when you sell large items online

Receiving at an Elite Anywhere warehouse
A dock your freight carrier can book
Manufacturers and freight lines want a commercial address with set receiving hours, and ours take appointments Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm, which a home office or a storefront without a dock cannot match.
Arrival photos for every inbound load
Each pallet or crate is photographed in its packaging as it lands, and the pictures are filed against your stock list so you and your supplier see the same record.
Damage raised while the supplier still owns it
If the packaging shows damage, we tell you before the stock goes into storage and you decide whether we open it. Inspection on request is free, and the claim goes to the vendor with our photos.
Stock held in the right conditions
Wood, upholstery and leather wait at a steady temperature with humidity and pest control, in secured warehouses, short or long term with no minimum period and cover on stored goods.
Unannounced freight matched to your account
Roughly two inbound shipments in ten arrive without notice. The warehouse team calls the carrier or the sender to find the owner rather than refusing the delivery.
Pick-and-pack and outbound shipping
When stock needs to move on to a dealer, a showroom or another of our warehouse locations, it is picked, packed and shipped from the building that received it.
Delivery into the buyer’s home
Our crew texts your customer about 30 minutes ahead, protects the route inside, assembles and places the piece, takes the packaging away and records the customer’s sign-off.

How receiving works for an online seller

Received boxes logged and stored at an Elite Anywhere warehouse
1

Receive

Give your manufacturer the address of the warehouse location closest to your buyers, and send us what is coming along with the bill of lading. Carriers book a weekday appointment between 9am and 3pm.

2

Inspect, Photograph, and Document

Pallet wrap and crates are condition-checked against your list, and damage is reported before storage; cartons are opened and inspected whenever you ask, at no charge. Each arrival is photographed and logged in Bond under your account, where your team's login shows stock status and shipments on the way.

3

Store

Inventory waits in climate-controlled space until a sale comes through, whether that is next week or next season. You can visit it, or ask for fresh photos of a piece before you promise a delivery date.

4

Deliver and install

Once a customer orders, the piece leaves with our own crew for in-home delivery, assembly and placement, or is packed and shipped onward. We deliver anywhere in the country, and the packaging leaves with the crew.

Frequently asked questions

Receiving for online sellers: common questions

Can an online furniture brand use a receiving warehouse?
Yes. Online sellers and e-commerce brands ship their production to us instead of to an office or a self-storage unit. We sign for the freight, record its condition, and hold it until orders come in. The full receiving process, step by step, is set out on our receiving warehouse page.
Is this the same as your fulfillment service?
Receiving is the inbound half: freight arrives, is checked against your list, and waits in storage. If you want us to run the whole order cycle as a standing program, from pick-and-pack to the buyer’s living room, that is our white glove fulfillment service, and standing warehouse programs are on 3PL warehousing.
Where should my manufacturer send the freight?
To the warehouse location nearest the bulk of your buyers, with your company name on the shipment. In New York that is our Long Island City warehouse, in Colorado our Denver warehouse; every other address is on the locations page.
What happens if a shipment from my supplier arrives damaged?
The packaging is photographed when it lands. If it shows damage, we tell you before anything is stored and you decide whether we open it, at no charge. The photos go with the claim to the vendor, which gives your supplier a clear record to act on.
How long can you store my inventory?
As long as you need, with no minimum period. Every mainland warehouse location offers climate-controlled storage, and you can visit your stock or ask for new photos of a piece at any time. More on our furniture storage page.
How much does receiving cost for an online seller?
Every account is quoted individually. The quote depends on how often freight arrives, the size of the pieces, how long they stay, and where your orders go. Send us your product list and your main delivery areas, and we’ll respond within 24 hours.

Freight on its way and nowhere to put it?

Tell us what your factory is shipping and where your buyers live. We’ll respond within 24 hours with the warehouse to send it to.
